Youth of the Year is a national initiative celebrating youth leadership and achievement at BGC Clubs across Canada. Youth of the Year aims to foster strong BGC ambassadors and build capacity for Clubs to support more youth leaders in their communities. Six outstanding youth will win the title of Regional or National Youth of the Year, along with scholarship funds, laptops, prize packs, and media and leadership training to prepare them as BGC ambassadors for the next two years.

Through youth-led approaches, participants will build knowledge and awareness about Truth and Reconciliation, while also exploring the ways that they can act as advocates and allies.

The BGCC National Youth Council (NYC) is committed to providing representation for Boys and Girls Club youth, reflecting issues and goals from across the country, and ensuring youth input into national initiatives and activities. NYC members serve as ambassadors and role models for other children and youth throughout the organization, positively influence decision-making on issues related to young people, and plan a national youth forum every two years.
BGCC’s Provincial Youth Councils (PYC) provide youth with an opportunity to bring their voice, creativity, lived experience and leadership to their Clubs and their youth peers. PYC youth develop their leadership skills, support and help guide youth program development, and bring youth perspectives to BGC governance and public policy.
BGC Canada acknowledges that our work spans many Territories and Treaty areas and we are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are with us today, those who have gone before us and the youth that continuously inspire us in the work that we do. BGC Canada’s mission statement is to provide safe, supportive places where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life. We recognize that these values are impossible to attain without the ongoing guidance and partnership with Indigenous peoples.
